The most recent Skin Forum annual meeting took place in Tallinn, Estonia in June 2018. The theme was Skin Health & Topical Formulation: New Insights and Perspectives. A broad range of topics was dealt with including skin ageing, the progress of skin pigmentation research, skin diseases, biophysical and imaging techniques, unmet needs in formulations for skin diseases, natural products and the skin, a look at the progression of ideas from concept to product stage and regulatory matters. Young researchers also had an opportunity to exhibit their work and there were plenty of opportunities to network.

We ran a session at PharmSci 2019, to look at Novel Insights into skin biology and permeation of actives using ToF-SIMS and 3D OrbiSIMS and crossing old barriers and printing new ones:Skin, nails and additive manufacturing.

So-called hot topics are:

  • Skin permeability
  • Biophysical techniques for examining the structure & function of skin
  • Bioavailability and bioequivalence issues
  • Dermal, transdermal drug design & QSAR
  • In vitro drug release from dermal & transdermal products
  • In vitro – in vivo correlations – Alternative models
  • Non-invasive drug monitoring
  • Application of 3D printing in the development of topical and transdermal medicines

The next Skin Forum annual meeting will take place in Reims, France 23 & 24th September 2019.
