Holistic approaches to better medicines

Providing a forum for the presentation and exchange of ideas relating to the latest high-quality developments in the design and manufacture of new medicines, from discovery to commercialisation.

The conference will provide a dynamic forum for industry, both large and small, to come together with academic colleagues to explore new technologies, processes and molecules which contribute to the ultimate development of new medicines.

With the iconic Lanyon Building as a backdrop, the PharmSci conference will be accommodated on the main campus, ensuring a seamless and compact event.

We are pleased to announce this year’s science chair is Professor Martin Snowden

Professor Martin Snowden is Pro Vice-Chancellor at the University of Greenwich where he leads the Faculty of Engineering and Science. Professor Snowden is an Eminent Fellow of the Academy of Pharmaceutical Science, a chartered chemist and a Fellow of the Royal Society of Chemistry. Professor Snowden has worked collaboratively with the Pharmaceutical industry for over twenty years and has a research interest in formulation and pre-formulation science. He is the author of over 100 peer reviewed papers and has worked with over 50 PhD and post-doctoral scientists during his career.

Networking and Social Events

APS are grateful and thank Belfast City Council for their kind generosity for the use of City Hall, for our drink reception on Tuesday 2nd September 2020.

CityHall remains the civic headquarters of Belfast CityCouncil and is always a hive of daily activity with ceremonies, registration of births, tourists taking tours of the building and guests attending numerous events.The grounds are also used for many events from continental markets to open air
concerts.

This year the Academy Black Tie Dinner will take place in the Titanic Centre   

The Gala dinner includes the Academy Awards Ceremony where the academy present awards to recognise the contribution of colleagues in the field.

PharmSci 2020 Black Tie Dinner is a prestige event attended by many of the key note speakers, board and advisory board of the Academy, providing an enjoyable evening networking with colleagues.

Awards

The Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences presents the Emerging Scientist Award and invite emerging pharmaceutical scientists to submit an application.

Entrants are welcome from researchers from across the globe in academia, industry, public service or other scientific establishments. Applicants should be no more than 10 years since award of their PhD, have an outstanding track record (for this stage of their career) indicative of excellent potential.

Submission Criteria
Both nominations and self-nominations are welcome. Submission should include:
• Complete CV including full list of publications, research grants awarded, details of PhD supervision, list of invited presentations etc.
• A one-page cover letter, highlighting key achievements of the candidate and suitability for the award.

Entries should be submitted via email to carol@apsgb.org including ‘Emerging Scientist Award’ in the subject field. Your email application must include your full name and postal address, a contact telephone number, your email, and your institution or organisation’s name. Deadline for applications is Friday 31st January 2020. Entries will be judged by an APS panel.

The conference includes a large pharmaceutical sciences exhibition to highlight big pharma companies, small and medium size enterprises (SMEs), contract research organisations (CROs) and technology suppliers.

This will be held in the Queen’s University, so exhibitors will be situated where all refreshments are taken, with many opportunities during the conference for delegates to visit your table and discuss your company and services.
