If so, you should sign up for our FREE virtual Industrial Careers Insights event on the 26th October 2022. This event is a chance to hear from those in industry on how to succeed at securing your dream job, networking opportunities and a ‘Q&A’ session where you can ask questions to the panel. As a pharmacy or pharmaceutical sciences student attending the event, you will be able to gain first hand insight into the Pharmaceutical Industry through a series of talks by pharmaceutical scientists working within the industry. This event has been very popular over the years attracting students from all over the UK. This webinar is targeted at any pharmacy, pharmaceutical sciences or related science postgraduate or undergraduate student considering a career in the pharmaceutical industry.

Dr. Mayank Singhal is a Senior Scientist in AZ where his responsibility is to develop formulations for use in early clinical studies. Previously, he held a similar role in a Finnish pharmaceutical company, Orion Pharma. Before this, he was a Postdoc at the University of Helsinki on a research project funded by the Swiss National Science Foundation, where he studied the challenges in developing a nanocrystals based oral formulation. Mayank obtained his PhD in Pharmaceutical Sciences from the University of Geneva (UNIGE), Switzerland. During his PhD, he worked on the small molecules, peptides, and proteins to develop microparticles, gels, and transdermal patches to achieve transdermal and topical delivery. Mayank obtained his Master degree in Pharmaceutics from India and worked in an Indian Pharmaceutical company, Panacea Biotec, before joining UNIGE as a Research Fellow on a Swiss Government Excellence Scholarships.

Amber Barlow, Formulation Scientist, Pfizer.

Amber’s background is in pharmacy, having completed her MPharm degree at King’s College London in 2019. Amber then went on to complete her Pre-Registration training year at East Kent Hospitals University NHS Foundation Trust, before making the transition into the pharmaceutical industry. Amber started her career at Pfizer as a Senior Associate Formulation Scientist two years ago, working predominantly in the parenteral space, and has recently been promoted to the Scientist level.

Maiara Montanha, Biopharmaceutics Scientist, Pfizer

Maiara graduated in Pharmacy from the State University of Maringa, Brazil, where she also did a Master’s and Ph.D. in Biosciences and Physiopathology. Part of her Ph.D. was completed in collaboration with the University of Lisbon, where she worked with PBPK modelling for 10 months. After that, Maiara was accepted for a Post-Doctoral Research Associate position at the University of Liverpool where she worked for 2 years applying PBPK modelling to predict drug-drug interaction in antiretroviral therapy and to evaluate biodistribution and pharmacokinetics of nanoparticles. Maiara joined Pfizer in February 2022 as a Biopharmaceutics Scientist.

Laura Valsecchi, Associate Brand Manager, Pfizer

Laura is a highly motivated and driven marketeer currently working in the dermatology space in Pfizer. Laura have a strong scientific background having studied Pharmaceutical science at De Montfort University and having worked in R&D as a formulator for over two years. Laura looks forward to sharing her career journey and tips with you!

Paul Trusty Ph.D. (University of Surrey) is a Senior Technical Director in the Quality Supply Chain for Haleon, UK (formerly GSK Consumer Health).

He is a Materials Scientist by training, with over 30 years’ experience of applying this approach to different manufacturing industries. Most of his early research focused on the fabrication and properties of engineering ceramics for aerospace applications. He then worked for 9 years in the Food Industry (Unilever Research) where he headed Product Characterisation and Development groups in both the UK and Latin America. For the past 15 years Paul has been working in the Pharmaceutical Industry for GSK in various positions in New Product Development, Process Design and Development, and HIV Supply Chain. More recently, in 2021, Paul joined the Consumer Health Division of GSK, now a company called Haleon. He now works in a Global Technical role that ensures Business Continuity of Consumer Products.

Brian Henry, Vice President, Pharmaceutical Sciences Small Molecule, Medicinal Sciences, Pfizer

Pharmaceutical Science is responsible for all small molecule development activities from molecular design in research through to global registration and commercial launch. I currently chair the Medicines Manufacturing Industrial Partnership, Pfizer lead on ABPI’s New Medicines and Data Strategic Leadership Group and a Professor of Pharmaceutics at the University of Nottingham.
After my first degree in Pharmacy at the University of Manchester and a year working in community Pharmacy, I completed a drug delivery based PhD at the University of Nottingham. I then worked at GSK in the discovery drug metabolism group before moving to Pfizer to set up a new Pharmaceutical Sciences Discovery support group. I have led the Global Drug Product Design function, also been the Pharmaceutical Sciences Research leader for the A&R, Pain and GI/GU Research units and a member of the Global Clinical Research leadership team. In addition, I have led Pharmaceutical Science’s intellectual property activities and was a technical due diligence leader for merger and acquisitions.
