Feedback from the 2011 event:

“An excellent opportunity for me to learn about the different positions and career types available within the pharmaceutical industry. As a final year PhD student, I found it very helpful in making decisions about my next career choices and clarifying my objectives.” Cristina Fante, Post-graduate student, University of Reading

“My personal favourites were the tour, the CV and careers workshops and 'A Day in the life of Panel', which gave a good insight into the reality of career options. The conference felt jam packed, and the busy schedule showed good value for money. I would definitely recommend this conference to others.” Natalie Kelk, Chemistry Student, University of Edinburgh

Thinking of a career in pharmaceutical sciences?

For some of you, this will be your final year at University. For others, you are just beginning your studies. But all of you will be thinking of what your future career may hold. What are you going to do with your degree? What avenues are open to you? The New Scientists Focus Group can help you as you embark on your career within the Pharmaceutical Sciences.

The New Scientists’ Focus Group (NSFG) resides within the Academy of Pharmaceutical Sciences (APS). It encourages the development of new scientists from the multidisciplinary pharmaceutical arena via educational sessions, careers and CV advice and provision of opportunities to interact with each other and eminent scientists. We deliver this through the provision of learning and networking events, such as “Industrial Insights”.

The New Scientists Focus Group comprises members from academia, industry and government working together to deliver these aims. The environment created by the group at its events actively encourages interaction between new and experienced scientists. To date this has been achieved through a series of seminars, workshops and articles organised and written over the last 15 years. The NSFG is also actively involved in organising and chairing a speaker session at the annual APS PharmSci conference – the premier UK Pharmaceutical Science conference. Through its sessions at the APS PharmSci conference, the group provides a unique opportunity to post-doctoral researchers, lecturers and new scientists to communicate their research to the wider pharmaceutical world.
